Larry Moore, Founder of Baseball in the Berkshires, will give a presentation on the history of baseball in Western Massachusetts. Larry will speak about Hall-of-Famers Frank Grant and Jack Chesbro, the dramatic discovery of the "Broken Window" by-law of 1791, the first collegiate game in 1859 between Amherst and Williams, and the history of both professional and amateur baseball in Western Massachusetts.

Larry Moore is a retired teacher in the Central Berkshire Regional School District. He taught a popular yearlong unit about the history of baseball for 25 years, to his fifth graders, culminating with a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame. He now works at the National Baseball Hall of Fame as an Educational Consultant and Outreach/Museum Educator. Eight years ago, Larry, along with Tom Daly, Jim Overmyer and Kevin Larkin established a group of baseball enthusiasts who have put together baseball exhibits throughout Berkshire County. As director of this group, he established the longtime display at the Berkshire Mall that was featured on New England Public Radio, UpCountry magazine as well as the Boston Globe. He also helped co-author the book Baseball in the Berkshires: A County’s Common Bond

Baseball in the Berkshires in cooperation with the Guilderland Public Library is proud to present an historical baseball exhibit entitled Bats Across the Border, from June 3-29 during normal library hours. Baseball in the Berkshires is a non-profit whose mission is to present exhibits and educational programs that will assist in telling the story of baseball in the Berkshires. From town ball and the Massachusetts Game to recreational, Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball, the history and culture of baseball are entwined in the towns and families from Sheffield and Ashley Falls to North Adams and Williamstown. Bats Across the Border will be a multi media exhibit of the history of baseball in neighboring Berkshire County. The exhibit will be spread throughout the library from the Helderberg room on the west end to the children’s section on the east end. The Baseball in the Berkshires collection contains over 1200 pieces (artifacts, photos, etc.) many of which will be utilized to tell this story. At the same time, New York State baseball history will be integrated to show how some of the history strands not only run parallel but are intertwined.

This exhibit has been made possible through the generosity of the Berkshire Bank Foundation, Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation and WJ Blueprint and Digital Graphics.
