Event Details
Flutist Melanie Chirignan, pianist Melinda Faylor, and cellist Laura Melnicoff came together to form Melia Trio thanks to an Arts Thrive and Grow grant project last year. "Melia" may mean “sweetness” along with “blackness/darkness,” “diligence,” and “courage.” Such a multifaceted word seemed fitting to the trio as their repertoire is so eclectic. This program will feature trios by female composers Louise Farrenc and Undine Smith Moore's Afro-American Suite, as well as duos for each permutation; flute and cello will play a Telemann canonic sonata, flute and piano will play "Mirror Pool" that came out of improvisations inspired by Japanese music by Melinda and Melanie when they created their EP last year(available on Bandcamp), and cello and piano will play a movement from Nadia Boulanger's Three pieces for cello and piano. Since they are all classical musicians and improvisers with eclectic tastes, they will send everyone off with a well-loved rendition of Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan. We hope you can join them for a lovely afternoon of music!
