“The Plastic Crisis: Turning Off the Tap”

"This program will explain the extent of the plastic pollution crisis, what we can do about it, and what is possible through legislation. By focusing on reduction and reuse -- the first two "R's" -- we can make an immediate impact while calling out the many false "greenwashed" solutions offered by producers. Billions of single use plastic carry-out bags have been stopped from becoming litter, being incinerated, or harming wildlife since 2020. We must build on this progress if we are to stem the tide of this ever-growing problem.

Beyond Plastics was founded in 2019, hosted at the Center for the Advancement of Public Action (CAPA) at Bennington College, and led by Judith Enck, former EPA Regional Administrator under President Obama, Beyond Plastics is on a mission to reduce plastic pollution everywhere through education, outreach and activism."

Presenter:

David Sayer (he/him) co-leads the Beyond Plastics Virtual Group, a national grassroots organization inspired by the Founder of Beyond Plastics, Judith Enck. David is a devout student of the plastic pollution crisis and maintains educational and activist resources on the Beyond Plastics wiki (http://beyondplastics.notion.site).  Locally, he serves on the board of Sustainable Saratoga in Saratoga Springs, NY, and coordinates community pickups and other Zero Waste activities.

While he has become a recognized “trash vigilante” in his community (@madplastic on Instagram), David is increasingly working at the keyboard to pressure state and federal lawmakers to support plastic pollution legislation and related climate protections.  He bands together weekly with other Beyond Plastics supporters to drive initiatives that would stem the plastic tide at the source and safeguard vulnerable communities.

Outside of his engagement with Beyond Plastics, David is a consulting IT architect for Accenture, specializing in Microsoft modern workplace technologies.  He is a father, husband, musician, cyclist, tennis player and expert low-waster.
