Paint a pet portrait to give as a special gift or for yourself! In this Zoom program you'll learn how to use a value scale and “paint by numbers” to create a unique and colorful version of any pet! Shawn Dell Joyce will take you step-by-step through the process, teaching you to see color as value and mix colors. The Library will provide you with all the supplies: an 8 x 10 canvas, a charcoal or soft pastel stick, and a set of acrylic paints. We can even lend you an easel (limited supply)!
Shawn Dell Joyce is an acclaimed plein-air painter who founded the Walkill River School of Art, still in operation as a non-profit arts cooperative and art gallery. Now based in Florida, Shawn is an award-winning artist whose work is featured in galleries across the country and also in museum collections in the United States and Europe.
This program is for adults and children 12 and up.
Please register for the program (you'll receive the Zoom link in a confirmation email), then pick up your packet of supplies and instructions from the Adult Information Desk between January 13-26. One important step is to print out a black and white pet photo on paper that is the same size (8 x 10, or letter size) as your canvas. This step is crucial to your success, as you will be using it as your guide. If you need assistance doing this, Library staff can help.
