Event Details

Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity that can support your neighbors in the Guilderland community?  Consider becoming a volunteer tutor to work with an adult who would like to learn or improve their English!

Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County (LVORC), which recently assumed responsibility for providing services to Albany County as well, will lead a brief workshop on the details of becoming a tutor.  LVORC staff will discuss the training that is offered to volunteers and what it's like to be a tutor.  Your commitment would be just a few hours each week, providing small group instruction or working one-on-one with an adult student.

Tutors come from all walks of life and professional backgrounds.  No prior teaching experience is necessary! One thing they do have in common: a shared feeling of satisfaction from helping others.

So come learn about this vital volunteer opportunity!  Coffee and light snacks will be served.  If for some reason you cannot make this event on June 10, an LVORC staff person will be at the Library on June 28 from 10:30-12 for a drop-in "meet and greet" session in one of our study rooms.
