Event Details

Sharpen your pencils and hone your spelling prowess!  We're holding a Spell-Off for Guilderland and Altamont Free Library patrons to test their abilities and qualify for a final Spell-Off, to be held April 30!  Teams of two people each are invited to sign up for the GAFL challenge.  Choose a partner and team name!  Going solo? We'll pair you with another singleton contestant, if possible.  Participants can be age 10 or older, but at least one person on your team should be age 18 or older.

The evening will consist of a group portion, with all teams spelling the same word simultaneously.  When five teams remain after the first elimination round, we'll move to a spotlight portion, where you'll be called up to the microphone to spell a word. The winning team must be willing to represent the GAFL community at the Great UHLS Spell-Off on April 30 @ 2:30 pm, to be held at the William K. Sanford Library in Colonie.  Participants in the GAFL challenge must arrive by 6 pm; we'll have a practice round at 6:10 pm, and the Spell-Off begins at 6:30 pm.
