November 15 is National Drummer Day, so to help mark the celebration, we're departing from our usual Sunday concert format to feature a performance...by YOU! We invite you to learn about an exuberant and thunderous path toward lifelong happiness...DRUMMING! Chelsie Henderson of Rural Soul Music Studio will lead a workshop where all participants will use West African hand drums to learn drumming skills and incorporate movement and song. You'll get into a groove from the moment your hands meet the drums! SPACE IS LIMITED so please register! Chelsie will bring along enough Djembes (a particular kind of West African drum) for all participants; if you own a Djembe and want to bring it, please note that when registering.
Presenter Chelsie Henderson is the founder and a music instructor at Rural Soul Music Studio in Schuylerville, NY. She has taught piano, voice, and ukulele for 20 years, and for the past 8 years has shared her love for West African drumming and movement with all ages and abilities. She has hosted and learned from Guinean master drummers M'Bemba Bangoura, Bolokada Conde, Sayon Camara, Ismael Bangoura, and Almamy Seny Daffe. Chelsie strives to connect to communities with, and pay homage to, the elders and culture-bearers of Western African music.
