Back to Bacharach and Beyond, featuring musicians Christine and Elliot Spero, is a show that will take you on a musical journey through composer Burt Bacharach's greatest songs -- with some surprises! Bacharach, who died last month at the age of 94, is considered to be one of the most important composers of 20th-century popular music. He composed hundreds of pop songs from the late 1950s through the 1980s, mostly in collaboration with lyricist Hal David, and continued composing and collaborating on new music well into his late 80s and early 90s. A six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award winner, Bacharach wrote songs that have been recorded by more than 1,000 different artists! These include such instantly-recognizable greats as "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," (They Long to Be) Close to You," "That's What Friends are For," and "Alfie," to name just a few. Rolling Stone ranked Bacharach and lyricist David on their list of 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.
Christine Spero, on piano and vocals, is no stranger to the stage. As a teen she recorded with Neil Sedaka and Don Kirschner of RCA records. She is a winner of the USA Songwriting Competition/Jazz Category. As the leader of the Christine Spero Group, Spero and her fellow musicians have recorded and released two CDs of Nu-Jazz and Latin Fusion music, and a third CD featuring the music of Laura Nyro. Christine and her husband, Elliot Spero, a multi-instrumentalist and producer, have been recording and playing live shows for over 25 years.
