Join us for a evening exploring the history of New York, as told by Bruce W. Dearstyne.
Bruce W. Dearstyne holds a BA in history from Hartwick College and a PhD in history from Syracuse University. He has taught history at SUNY Albany, SUNY Potsdam, and Russell Sage College. Dearstyne has written dozens of articles on history, archives, libraries, and related topics for several publications including History News, AASLH Technical Leaflets, Public Historian (guest editor of two special issues), New York History, New York Archives and New York State Bar Association Journal.
Dearstyne's books include Progressive New York: Change and Reform in the Empire State, 1900-1920 – a Reader (SUNY Press, 2024); The Crucible of Public Policy: New York Courts in the Progressive Era (SUNY Press, 2022); The Spirit of New York: Defining Events in the Empire State’s History (2nd edition, SUNY Press, 2022), Leading the Historical Enterprise: Strategic Creativity, Planning, and Advocacy for the Digital Age (2015); Managing Historical Records Programs (2000); Railroads and Railroad Regulation in New York State, 1903–1913 (1986); and New York: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow (joint author, 1990).
